Great new mixtape by DJ MoonDawg and Kidz in the Hall. The Kidz duo includes MC’s Naledge and Double-O. Reality Bites has the Chicago duo rapping over some pretty funky and bass-heavy beats. Curren$y da Hot Spitta is at it again with another great mixtape released in celebration on the Saints Super Bowl victory. With fantastic beats, and production by the just-as-consistent DJ Don Cannon, this mixtape by Weezy’s protege has got us pumped for more. Curren$y has an album due in 2010 titled The Grand Scheme of Things, as well as another project with Wiz Khalifa. Stay posted for those drops.

V.5 was a solid January drop from G-unit member Lloyd Banks. It has a well rounded lineup of songs and Banks stays consisently entertaining throughout most of the tape. Banks’ untitled third album is due to drop in June of 2010.

Though it dropped in late November, Lupe Fiasco’s cassette like mixtape was still one of the best of the year. Killing a range of beats from Radiohead to Weezy, Lupe has laid the ground work for his upcoming album “Lasers” set to drop in early 2010. Find it here soon.

This mixtape, produced by Don Cannon, was another refreshingly funky electro drop by the duo from the Midwest. Nerdy, unimpressed and keen on their hip electronic teenage slang, this tape is also featured some more mello party tracks for the older crowd.  Always entertaining and masterfully produced, The Cool Kids mixtape Gone Fishing notches the number six best mixtape of ’09.

This mixtape dropped in May of ’09 and contained some of the choicest Jeezy verses of the year as well as some of the hottest Weezy callabos. This is a terrific release from Brooklyn native and veteran MC Mos Def. The Ecstatic features Flacco with a harder, more grimy tone, and with the outcome is raw fire. Not only is Def’s flow exceptional, but the production is fantastic throughout the entire tape. Quite possibly his hottest album to date, The Ecstatic places Mos Def on top of the game and lands him the number one spot on our list of 10 best rap albums of 2009.

This is a true Wu-Tang album, with lots of kung fu samples and twangy loops. Like in Pt. I, Ghostface is all over the album, and he holds it down just as much as Chef. This isn’t some 12 track drop either, there are a lot of songs, and since Raekwon held down each one in classic style, he gets the #2 spot on our top ten list of ’09.
