Now that 2010 is behind us, here is the RapsLatest.com final list of the top 10 mixtapes of 2010. Our list this year includes some obvious choices as well as a few sleepers that you probably haven’t seen on other lists. The best thing about this list is that you can download each project totally free without having to feel like a pirate. 10. Pac Div – Don’t Mention It

This LA Trio has lots of talent and their beats really knock hard. Don’t Mention It has a handful of too-good-to-miss songs, and was all over the web when it dropped, because it sounds so dang nice. I was really disappointed that they let their hype fizzle after release, probably only came across 5 for the rest of 2010 after they dropped this in May.

9. El Prez – Animal Style

When I downloaded this mixtape I had never heard any El Prez before, and damn was I impressed. This Cali native his skill and some of the beats on here are so sick. They remind me of socal version of hyphy music.

8. Game – Brake Lights

Even though Game’s RED Album got delayed until 2011, he dropped two mixtapes 2010, this one, and The Red Room, both of which had some nice gangster Game shit. Though each tape had a handful of album-quality tracks, with songs like M.I.A. and Phatom of the Opera, this one was the better of the two.

7. The Cool Kids – Tacklebox

With some of the best beats around, The Cool Kids are definitely one of the hottest duo’s in the game. Tacklebox was full of hard knocking bass-lines and fat raps to match. Even though they fell a little stagnant after it was released (where was the 2010 album?) the mixtape was still one of the best (free) performances of the year.

6. Young Chris – The Re-Introduction

Now on the solo tip, Young Chris of the Young Gunz dropped an unaccompanied mixtape in November that was hot fire. DJ Drama and Don Cannon produced the tape, so it’s no surprise the entire thing was dope. Not to get sidetracked, but I wished I had heard more from Drama and Don Cannon in 2010, those are two kings of production right there.

5. Wale – More About Nothing

Wale has mad talent, coming off one of the best rap albums of 2009, and his 2010 mixtape More About Nothing was another solid offering. With a nice compilation of sick beats, fresh rhymes, and some nice new cover songs, this free tape was one of the best of 0-10. Now that Wale is getting ready to sign with Rick Ross, things are only looking up for 2011.

4. Big Sean – Finally Famous 3

Big Sean had a breakthrough year in 2010, and it’s no surprise considering he comes from the GOOD Music camp. We look forward to much more from the young Detroit native, with his debut album slated for 2011.

3. Wiz Khalifa – Kush and Orange Juice

Classic, classic, classic. This mixtape blew up the internets when it was released in April, quickly skyrocketing the Pittsburgh homie to the top of all sort of websites and trending lists. Though I definitely wasn’t the first one to discover Wiz, I did predict his success last year in this very same list. Now I swear everyone is wet over that Black and Yellow song, even my friends that don’t like rap.

2. B.o.B. – No Genre

Damn, the first time I played this mixtape, I thought of the Drake line, “dropped the mixtape, the shit sounded like an album.” He just released it last month, and he straight up dominated everyone. While I thought his album was a little to singy/pop for my taste, (there is a little of that in this tape) for the most part, Bobby Ray just goes in. He is a damn good rapper, almost sounding like a long lost member of Outkast circa 2010, and there are some great beats on here that he just kills. Props to B.o.B. for such an outstanding release, I’m look forward to much more from this MC in 2011.

1. ¥.€.$. – Volume 1

To start, let me just say that I am so excited that this project is titled Volume 1. Ab-Liva (of Re-Up Gang) and Philly newcomer iCan dropped this mixtape back in November and it is phenomenal. The first offering from the duo reminds me of a Re-Up project with overtones of cocaine and gangster shit, and Ab-Liva and iCan just murk the entire thing. While I can’t say that these two are gonna blow up in 2011, it is not for lack of talent, it’s really only for the fact that this type of gangster rap is not everyone’s cup of tea.

Honorable Mentions

Honorable Mention #1: Mack Maine – The Laxative

Though the Young Money General may not garnish as much attention as his YM counterparts Drake or Weezy, his raps are still top notch and his mixtape was full of that Young Money flavor.

Honorable Mention #2: Tony Yayo – Gunpowder Guru

If it were not for the ambiguity about the status of mixtape or album on this release, this probably would have made the top 10. First this was slated as a mixtape, and then Yayo decided to charge like 7.99 for it on iTunes because he said, that’s what 50 would have done. It was a good release, especially if you like that yayo gangster shit, and definitely one of my favorites this year.

Honorable Mention #3 Rugz D. Bewler – Save Bewler: The Memoirs Of Muhammad Mc’Fly

Rugz D. Bewler dropped a hot tape that I’m sure most people probably didn’t even bother downloading. This cat has talent, and with Ski Beatz as one of his main producers, his sound stays right.

Honorable Mention #4: Rick Ross – The Albert Anastasia EP

This definitely would have made it onto the top ten had it not been for the fact that all of his best songs on here were on also on his album Teflon Don. Ross will be on the top 10 rap albums of 2010, so stay tuned for that, coming soon.
